K Rounds holster review part 2

So, I decided to let my buddy Chris borrow the K Rounds in N out convertible holster to get his professional opinion.  Being that Chris LeCroy and his brother Robbie LeCroy run the oldest gun store in town, Acworth Guns, I highly value their opinions.  As I'm typing this I'm having strong doubts on whether or not I'll be getting the holster back!  Another convert for the K Rounds family!  The following are his words verbatim.



Upon initial receipt of the K rounds kydex holster, the packaging was the first point of interest.  A simple see through plastic bag, adorned with a zipper at the bottom.  Since the holster is IWB/OWB and has different hardware, leaving the unused parts in the package makes for easy ID and access while in the safe. The smooth edges of the kydex are perfectly crafted and the black rivets/screws even and matched.  The belt loops are thick and sturdy, and the loop placement helps draw the holster closer to the body. Using the commander sized 1911 model, a S&W 1911SC fit very nice and snug and only a quarter turn of the tension screw made it slip in and out with ease (while still passing the handstand test). Not having widely used kydex holsters, K Rounds holster seems to carry quite nicely. The holster is incredibly lightweight and with the 1911SC inserted, the FBI cant lets the pistol sit quite nicely and keeps the handle "printing" to a minimum.  Going from walking around to sitting in the car, the holster allows for an easy transition.  The high backing, covering the trigger and bobtail, is great for keeping the metal from digging into your side. I'd recommend this product to my friends and customers.

K Rounds kydex holster review

So, the other day I received a package from the guys over at K Rounds...I was kinda excited due to the fact that it was my FIRST product to review as well as an up and coming premium holster.

Being a fairly newer company founded in January of 2013 by Trevor Shaw and David Lathrop, I was definitely looking forward to seeing how K Rounds stacked up.

First impressions mean a lot in the gun industry and right off the bat K Rounds didn't disappoint.  The packaging is well thought out and eye catching.

Now to the nitty gritty....I received two holsters to play with, a competition style full size 1911 holster(left in pic)and their in N out convertible inside the waistband/outside the waistband holster for a commander sized 1911(what can I say, I love my 1911s...), both with a fbi cant.  And off to the range I went.

First up is the competition, I looped it up and already it just felt right...retention at first was a little tight but a simple turn of the 'ol screwdriver allowed for a lightning fast release while still providing plenty of positive retention during rigorous movement...and trust me I tried to get this thing to fail...it wouldn't cooperate, k rounds - 1, me - 0.

I spent the better part of the next week wearing the competition holster as my edc just to see how she faired.  Now I know it's not designed as an edc holster....hence the name "competition", but it did work rather well.  The competition hugged my hipline enough to be easily concealed beneath a light jacket.  Open carry is obviously a non issue.

Several things I really liked about the competition -

The speed relief cut - this allows the muzzle of the gun to clear the holster sooner in order to start the movement onto the target faster.

The sight relief in the holster was indeed large enough to accommodate high suppressor sights, though the semi-closed muzzle end of the holster would not fit the threaded barrel....not a problem though, it just needs to be opened up a bit or K Rounds will custom make a holster to fill ANY of your needs.

The 3/4" belt slot for mounting over your belt loop.  This prevents the holster from sliding back and forth on your belt.

My only negative is that my cobra belt buckle wouldn't fit through the loops.  Once again, an easy fix....the cobra belt is 1.5", and so were the loops on the holster.  I'm almost positive the 1.75" would fit it...not even a real negative, I know.

End of the day, if you're looking for a comfortable IDPA legal competition holster...this should be your first choice.

Next up is the in N out convertible holster.  I'll start by saying that I've NEVER been able to comfortably wear any kind of inside the waistband holster....until now.  Now granted, that's still not my preferred method of carry....but, if I were to carry itwb it would be with the in N out.  Once again retention is easily adjustable and secure.  No worrying that the screws are going to move on you....I just set it where I liked it and that's it.

Now the in N out holsters best feature is that it's not a one trick pony, when buying a holster I always like to have options.  And the fact that you can just swap some screws and clips and BAM!  Options!

Here it is in the otwb configuration.

All in all the in N out is a great all around holster that definitely excels in areas where other manufacturers fall staggeringly short.  

The pros and cons -

Nice wide body hugging footprint to allow even weight distribution, but not so wide that it becomes bulky....even with the heavy obtrusive 1911.

There is a high ride section on the body side of the holster that keeps the slide serrations from rubbing a hole in your side(this comes in extremely handy when carrying itwb).

The bad news is.....there is no bad news.  Otwb carry was so comfortable I forgot it was there several times.  Itwb, though not my preferred method of carry was comfortable and all I know is that when I do decide to carry inside the waistband it will ONLY be with this holster.....but then again I haven't played with the other K Rounds holsters!  No other manufacturers have ever come close for me.  Period.

Wrapping it all up whether you are looking for a versatile edc holster or a holster for your favorite competition gun, K Rounds has it covered.  Their products are well thought out, functional, comfortable, and tough as nails.  Whatever your holster needs may be you should seriously consider K Rounds for your next purchase.
